Music Research Assistant

 

As a Music Research Assistant, you’ll gain hands-on experience in research by developing audio-based stimuli and music interventions. As part of a collaborative team, you’ll work with game designers and researchers to support studies incorporating soundscapes and interactive music, enhancing participant engagement and user experience. 

While primarily focused on research tasks, this position also offers opportunities to assist in administering study protocols, collecting data, and recruiting participants for studies exploring cognitive processes, mental fitness, and the role of music.

This position requires at least 10 hours a week, with in-lab shifts and potential for online work based on lab needs. This role is ideal for those interested in building a career in psychology, cognitive science, or music-based research.

    • Have a background in music production, sound design, and performance
    • Have experience in Digital Audio Workstation
    • Are detail-oriented with strong analytical and organizational skills.
    • Are excellent communicators, both written and verbal.
    • Able to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

Music Specialist and Sound Designer

 

Music Specialists and Sound Designers play a vital role in supporting our research initiatives through music and sound design. Your work will involve crafting and refining soundscapes and composing music for interactive games while also assisting with the development of audio stimuli for research. Collaboration with game designers will be key to enhancing user experiences, as well as helping with participant recruitment and study administration in the Boston area.


In the full-time Sound Designer role, you’ll create immersive soundscapes and user interfaces for our studies. You will collaborate with developers and researchers to enhance sound design and music for cognitive training applications. Additionally, you’ll produce technical documents and attend relevant project meetings to stay aligned with research goals.

This role is available both as a co-op and as an on-campus job during the school year and offers a unique chance to blend music, neuroscience, and game design. 

We are seeking individuals who:

    • Have a strong background in music production, sound design, and performance
    • Are experienced in Digital Audio Workstations
    • Possess strong communication and teamwork skills
    • Familiarity with game design and Unity (preferred)
